King 528 K9s is a nonprofit organization 501(C)(3) founded to honor the legacy of Officer Chris Farrar, a dedicated K-9 handler who gave his life in the line of duty on April 30, 2021. In his memory, our mission is to provide highly trained service and therapy dogs to support first responders, military veterans, individuals with disabilities, and organizations in need. Through this work, we carry forward Officer Farrar’s spirit of service, and each dog placed represents a living tribute to Chris's unwavering commitment to helping others.
My journey to receiving a service dog began after an injury led to my diagnosis of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). This condition affects both my mobility and central nervous system, causing chronic pain that makes everyday tasks difficult and, at times, overwhelming. As my symptoms progressed, I found myself becoming more homebound and less engaged in the life I once lived.
As I searched for ways to manage my symptoms and regain some independence, I began exploring the possibility of a service dog. While I did find an organization that could provide a trained service dog, the financial burden was far beyond what I could manage on my own. It was during this time that I was introduced to KING 528 K9s, and everything began to shift.
Thanks to the incredible support of KING 528 K9s, the funds were raised for me to receive my service dog, Winston. From the moment Winston entered my life, everything began to change for the better. He assists me with mobility, helps me manage the emotional toll that comes with chronic pain, and most importantly, has given me the confidence to get back out and live life again.
Winston is more than a service dog—he is my partner, my support system, and a constant source of strength on even the most difficult days. I am extremely grateful to KING 528 K9s for making this life-changing partnership possible.
